Effective Giving Book Launch

Effective Giving is publishing a collection of essays on effective philanthropy to protect future generations. Contributors include Lord Martin Rees,  Astronomer Royal and Co-Founder of Centre for the Study of Existential Risk and William MacAskill,  Associate Professor in Philosophy, the University of Oxford and Research Fellow, Global Priorities Institute. The book launch will be held at the House of Lords.

Effective Giving hosted a dinner with Ben Delo and Oxford University Professor William MacAskill at the 50th Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos. 


Web Summit, 4 - 7 November 2019, Lisbon, Portugal 

Effective Giving’s Founder & CEO Natalie Cargill spoke on a panel about ‘How to Spend Money and Save People’ alongside Effective Giving’s ambassador, Liv Boeree. The panel was moderated by Joon Ian Wong, Managing Director at CoinDesk, the world leader in cryptocurrency news, data and events. You can watch a video of the panel here. 


Charities Aid Foundation (CAF), 6 November 2019, London

Effective Giving presented on the ‘Importance of Evidence in Philanthropy’ at CAF’s event at the Conduit Club (a members club focused on social impact).

Effective Giving’s Managing Director Simran attended the Goldman Sachs Asia Philanthropy Forum in Hong Kong where she participated in a workshop on ‘Making the Most of Your Philanthropic Dollars’.

Natalie spoke on “Future, Foresight and Fortitude” at the School of International Futures (SoIF) Summer Retreat in Strategy Foresight. Other speakers included Amanda Ruggeri, Editor of BBC Future and Matthew Burrows, Director of Strategic Foresight, Atlantic Council

Natalie and Liv spoke on a panel about ‘Saving the World with High-Impact Philanthropy’, where they discussed how philanthropy can use evidence and careful reasoning to identify the most promising solutions to the world's most pressing problems.

Natalie attended a weekend hosted by Y Combinator, which aimed to bring together curious, creative people doing exciting work in emerging fields.


Beneficial AGI Conference, 4 - 7 January 2019, San Juan, Puerto Rico

The Beneficial AGI conference is unlike the many conferences focused on short-term AI challenges; this conference was more narrowly focused on issues related to artificial general intelligence (AGI) - one of Effective Giving’s key focus areas.

Natalie gave a talk at the annual Adam Smith Institute Forum on ‘Why We Are Ignoring the Worst Moral Problems of Our Time.’

Natalie and Liv gave a talk on ‘High-Stakes Decision Making: How to Maximise Your Impact’ at the annual Ethereum conference, Devcon. You can watch the video here


How the Light Gets In, 22 - 23 September, London, UK

Natalie debated ‘Morality or Equality?’ with human rights campaigner Peter Tatchell, and Professor of Political Theory at the University of Oxford, David Miller at the world’s largest philosophy and music festival.
